Joy Is...

Watching your kiddos play in the sprinklers on a warm *still* winter day...

Listening to your oldest talk about when he gets married to his CCD sweetheart...
Getting your nails done with your sweet daughter...

Snuggling with your 4yo baby as they drift off to dreamland...
Spending time with the love of your life...

Being surprised by your siblings and parents for your birthday...
Watching your kids do something they so enjoy...

This is what joy is!

Just A Bit Busy....

Well, once again, I do great updating friends and family on our family happenings and then for some reason, I stop. I think this time however, I have an excuse. Are you ready for it?!?!? Okay, well......

We have been busy! Our homeschooling studies are taking longer than they have in the past 3 years - and yes I know, this year I am teaching a 1st and 2nd grader while also teaching/entertaining/keeping away a full of life 3 year old who thinks (and knows) that he is just hilarious. It is a job these days. I hope that satisfies as a good enough reason for all. If not, well, come spend a day here, handle all of the homeschooling and entertainment needs ON TOP OF all of the daily household chores....

To give you a better understanding of our day, I will let you into our typical daily routine, Monday - Friday, with VERY few days, or even weeks, off.... We are trying to 'train' the kiddos to not leave their beds until 7a. Somedays this works, most days it does not, so they end up snuggling on the couch with mommy - they *quietly* watch cartoons while I close my eyes until 7! At 7, we start the process of getting daddy out the door, but only after I have at least 1 cup of coffee. Once daddy leaves, between 7:45 and 8, our day really begins. I make breakfast for the kiddos and while they are eating, I am reading them the morning prayers and Bible verses from our Magnificat. After breakfast, we do chores. As soon as those are done and checked off of the list, we will begin school. In the morning, Robert and Hannah do their handwriting work solo while I do a bit of 'work' with Wesley. Once they are done, we move onto the mommy supervised subjects: Spelling, Language/English, and Reading. Typically after these are done, they are antsy because we have been working for 1.5-2hrs, so outside we go. Most days we go for a bike ride around the block a few times. Lately though, they have preferred the backyard. Whichever they choose is fine with me, as long as they are happy...and done with the 4 morning subjects! Around 11:45, I attempt to serve lunch. I say attempt because there is always the I like this, not that - this is nasty - I will eat if you let me skip nap - etc ~ UGH! Once lunch has ended, we enter my favorite time of the day.... nap/rest/reading time!!! Welsey MUST nap. Hannah, must read for 30min and is not allowed out of her room until 2pm. Robert must read for 30min and then he can play on the computer, do puzzles, anything that is quiet and he can do solo. I clean, start dinner IF I am cooking, sit for a few if I can, fold laundry, and prepare for science, math, and Religion. Once they are all up and fed... again.... I will do math. This is a 1:1 subject. So while I am working with Hannah, Robert is working with Wesley - teaching him colors, shapes, songs, etc. Then they switch and I work with Robert. After math comes science. To simplify things this year, I am starting with 1st grade science for both. Once that is done, we will go to second, and so on. Finally, our last subject for the day is religion. This includes a story every week from their children's Bible, with review questions all week. They also have a religion text and activity book that we use. Once school is done and we put all of our school marterials. Around 5:30 I serve the kiddos dinner. Then bath/showers, playing with Daddy, watching Figure It Out at 7, and then reading a book to mommy while snuggling in bed. Once they are out, I set about cleaning up from dinner. Doing some more laundry. Getting lessons for the morning. Hopefully taking a shower. Saying hello to my best friend and thanking him for all he does so that I am able to stay home and teach our beauties. He is such a great man... . Hopefully before midnight I will make it to bed where I say a quick prayer thanking God for the day and begging him to not let anyone have nightmares - this last part almost always is answered for 2/3's of the kiddos.... I will pass out as soon as my head hits the pillow for just a few hours before life starts all over again....

So, like I said previously, I hope that you realize this is not just an excuse. When I say life is busy, it is! And this is just a day where we have no doctor appointments, homeschooling field trips, the kiddos weekly run club, or Adoration that I try to squeeze in at least once a week. But, although our life is crazy and some days I feel like I cant breathe, it is a life I would not trade for anything! And without the hard work of my true love, this crazy, hectic, wonderfully blessed life, would not be possible.

On a different note, I realize more and more every day, what a great life God has grantI re me - even with all of its challenges that have come my way these past 3.5yrs, there is nothing I would change.... Well, 1 thing - to have my family about 590miles closer! If there is one thing I have learned in these past 3.5yrs, with all that has happened with me, with trusting God, and going from 2 to 1 incomes, and then on top of all that, our decision to beginin our homeschooling adventure, I have learned that it truly takes a village to raise children. Honeslty,I believe we would be completely lost of it were not for all of our incredible friends who are there in a moments notice, no questions asked. Who don't offer help just to sound nice, but rather because they rnd truly care. And our family who is only a phone call away at all times, no matter where they are....

A Night Away

Right now, I am in Mississippi while my husband and 3 kiddos are in FL. Since we said "I Do" in November of 03, I have NEVER been more than 30 minutes away from them - EVER.....

Yesterday as I boarded the airplane, my eyes filled with tears. I knew that I was coming to MS to see my family and that I would be so very busy making memories - spending time with all of my many siblings, parents, and grandparents, but I also knew that it would be different....

Everytime I see a kiddo around the age of Robert, Hannah, or Wesley, my heart jumps just a bit. Everytime I see my parents, grandparents, or older siblings with their spouse, I feel a tinge of jealousy. Who would have thought that just 24 hours could make me feel like this?

Last night, we went to dinner as a family - I loved every moment, but I longed to be sitting there with my spouse and my children instead of talking about them.......

Understand that I am LOVING this time away. I am loving the ability to sit and type and read without interruptions, but I so miss my family.........

I Slept In!

Robert and I have been married for 8 years, 5 months, and 13 days. During this time, I can count on one hand the number of times I have not gotten up with the kiddos (this does not include when I have been in the hospital). Now, let me specify this is NOT Robert's fault, rather the way things have evolved as we had children. When they were little, when they woke they would want to nurse and for obvious reasons, daddy can not do this. As they grew older, they were so accustomed to mommy waking up with them that daddy was not an option. And I like having that time with them. Well, this morning was different.....

I had asked daddy a few days ago if I could sleep in on Saturday. He of course agreed, but I did not get too excited because I was sure the kiddos would get upset because of the change in their routine. So, last night before tucking them in, I spoke to them and reminded them that when they woke up, that they needed to wake up daddy, not mommy. Surprisingly, all 3 were fine with this and I went to bed hopeful that I really might be able to sleep in!

I, very surprisingly, woke at 7:43 (kiddos NEVER sleep past 6:30) to a sleeping daddy and 3 sleeping kiddos! After the shock wore off, I closed my eyes again only to hear a certain 3 year old whispering mommy - apparently he did not understand when I said mommy is NOT getting up with you guys! I quickly sent him to daddy, where to my surprise, daddy was already getting up! He quickly scooped up Wesley and left the room. I checked out the clock and it was 7:55! Even if I were to wake up now, it still would have been the latest I had slept since....um.... I don't know!

Over the next little bit, I could hear daddy and Little Robert reading The Cat In The Hat and the kiddos 'ssshhh'ing each other. At one point, daddy' came in and turned on the classical music to block out the noise and then brushed his teeth. After this, I fell into a deep sleep and did not wake again until 10:40! When my eyes opened and were able to focus on the clock, I could not believe what I was seeing. Never have I slept past 9... not even in college! I guess that I was more tired than I had even realized! Shortly after my eyes opened, I heard the garage door open and I decided to stay in bed until the kiddos came get me :-)

Much to my surprise, when the door opened, there was daddy, Little Robert, Hannah, and Wesley carrying an iced coffee and breakfast! The only time I have gotten more than coffee in bed was in the hospital! Needless to say, I was speechless. I felt so very, very loved and special. I was being treated like a princess! Each kiddo told me something special about the morning - how he/she quietly read a book. Or reminded a sibling to stay quiet so I could sleep. Or help daddy. Daddy stayed quiet and just stood in the background smiling and listening....

I have always felt special and cherished, but the gift I received this morning was like no other. Words can not express the gratitude and love that I felt or the new depth of love and appreciation I have for my spouse. My best frriend. The love of my life.....and now that I have experienced this incredible feeling of staying in bed until your body wakes up, I might just ask for it again!

So, thank you my love for this gift today. Words cannot adequately describe just how very, very grateful I am. I hope that you enjoyed your special time with the kiddos because I might ask for this again :-) I love you with every ounce of my being and that love has only intensified after this morning.

Role Reversal

Well, I am a lucky lady - today Daddy and I switched roles for a bit. . . I packed a picnic lunch for the kiddos and brought them to daddy while I went out to eat with one of his co-workers! I know that Amber and I had a great time, and I am pretty sure that daddy and the kiddos did as well!

Thank you, Daddy for the special treat - I had a great time having adult conversation! And, Amber, we must do it again soon!

The post that I have been avoiding. . .

Well, there is good news and bad news in regards to this most recent surgery - not sure which to share first. . .

Good News: The surgery has helped *some* and the recovery has been flawless. I am still tired and sore, but that improves with each passing day. We are beyond thrilled for a smooth recovery as this has not happened with ANY of the surgeries since Wes was born, almost 3 years ago. We are so grateful for this blessing and all of your prayers.

Bad News: The surgery has helped *some*. Prior to the surgery, the nerve pain began in my lower right pelvis (about 2 inches above my c-section scar) and extended into my groin. For the most part the pelvis part is gone, meaning that the adhesions were pressing on that section of the nerve, but from about my c/s scar down, the pain remains - the area that he could not get to in this surgery. This is quite discouraging to me, but I have to keep in mind that it did lessen the total area of my pain and for that I must remain grateful.

Our prayer was for relief and an easy, uncomplicated recovery. All of this *has* occurred, just not in the full capacity that we had hoped for. I have had to remind myself many times that my plan in not His plan. So, for now, I follow up with my surgeon 1 week from today and will see my pain doctor after that. I also spoke with an herbalist and an acupuncturist and we will see where that brings us.

I am trying to remain positive and not focus on the negative. Big Robert is doing an incredible job in helping me with this. He is my cheerleader and confidant. . . I am trying so hard, but it is honestly difficult. My prayer now is for courage, trust, and endurance as we continue on this journey that is evolving and ever changing. This journey that I must remind myself *has* improved. . .

Our Life Until November 1, 2003

ENJOY!

Mommy and Daddy's Forever Love Day Celebration

We began a tradition last year of having our children participate in Mommy and Daddy's Forever Love Day. After their dinner, before Robert and I celebrate (he makes dinner!), they have a dessert.

Forever Love Day Celebration 2010

This year, we put Little Robert in charge of their dessert and we were NOT at all surprised when he chose this:
GIANT M and M COOKIES AGAIN!
So, after dinner, we watched a short movie that was made for our wedding day. The kiddos LOVED seeing all of the pictures of mommy and daddy when we were younger. We then gathered the kiddos at the table again and spoke about Mommy and Daddy's love. Then it was time for a photo op:
Followed by party time! Each kiddo enjoyed their giant cookie. There were a few meltdowns, but that is from over exhausted children. . . Next time, we will not get married on the day after Halloween!
Robert could NOT bite it fast enough!
Piggy ate Hannah's!
Wesley's was as big as his head!

To the one I love. . .

My Dear Robert,

When we met on that Friday evening in June 2002, never would I have thought it would lead to where we are today. You know, my love, one of the funny things about that night and the days following, is that I remember so many of the details as if they just happened. Throughout the entire summer of Crossroads, there are not many nights that I can say this about. And then moving forward in regards to us, there are SO many things that I remember as if they have just happened. . .
  • I remember sitting at Andrew and Julia house and seeing you walk in and immediately begin making everyone laugh.
  • I remember you walking with us that Monday and doing so many firsts with us - riding a ferry. Crossing a border. And that the day was just incredible. You stayed back and talked with Father while I walked ahead and sang the Rosary. It was SO powerful.
  • I remember you doing the readings at Mass that night and breaking bread with us at our 'home'!
  • I remember laughing at all of my fellow walkers as they told me over and over that you were smitten!
  • I remember being "interviewed" for an article that you wrote, and again, having to convince others that you were just my "stalker!"
  • I remember all of the care and concern I received from you after my snake bite and subsequent surgery and hospital stay.
Robert, my love, I remember it all and never would I have guessed that that chance meeting 9 years ago would lead us to where we are now - celebrating 8 glorious years of marriage!

During these years of marriage though, we have been through a lot - illness, moves, money woes, etc etc. However, even our most dire times, pale in comparison to what others endure. Even so, these are our struggles and our battles. These are our bad times. These are our times of sickness. These are our challenges. And with these, we seem to always come out stronger, no matter how hard they may be to overcome.

Never would I have thought, that when we stood on that altar at St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church, reciting our vows while smelling Grampy's burning brakes from outside, that I could love you any more than I did on that day. I sure was naive as my love has grown daily and especially when I least expect it. I love how you give SO very much of yourself to ensure that all of us have everything that we need. You go without so that we do not. You are more than I could have ever hoped for and dreamed of.

Robert I love you. I am beyond grateful that our lives were brought together on that evening at Julia and Andrew's. I am glad that you stalked me were persistent, and did not give up. I am grateful that I finally followed my heart and my mind, and listened to your words as you were preparing for that long drive from my home to yours - "Let's be open to where God is leading this." And we both were. . .

You are now and will forever be On My Heart. I thank God for all that He has given us and I pray that He continues to guide and lead us in His ultimate plan for our life.

So, Happy Anniversary, My Love. I hope that you can look back on the past 8 years without regret and look forward to ALL that are to come with hope and enthusiasm for all of the adventures that are to come!  (. . . Ps. only 67 more until the Today Show!)
What we have accomplished in 8 years!
